JAMESTOWN – A Jamestown mother is accused of assaulting, abandoning and failing to care for her children following a welfare check by police on Wednesday.

Officers with the Jamestown Police Department responded to an address on the city’s south side for a report of a woman abandoning her children.

Following an investigation, police allege 38-year-old Diana Compos assaulted one of her four children and abandoned two of her kids; leaving them alone in the Downtown area.

Police said they found Compos at a business nearby with her two other children.

Those children, police report, had no shoes and wet clothing during winter weather conditions.

Furthermore, it is alleged one of the children was covered in their own feces after Compos failed to change their diaper.

Compos, police say, disregarded officers’ commands and attempted to pull away from them while she was arrested.

She is charged with third-degree assault, four counts of endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.

All of her children, officers say, are now accounted for and safely being cared for.
