ALBANY N.Y. (WENY) – Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the state will award $900 million in child care stabilization grants to programs statewide.

The grants are part of a $2.3 billion package of investments in New York State’s child care industry.

The Office of Children and Family Services awarded funding to nearly 15,000 eligible child care providers over four months, from August through November.

Locally, the Southern Tier received a little over $19 million in funding.

The funds are used to cover the costs of things like personnel, rent, mortgage, and PPE needed to respond to COVID goods and services to maintain child care services.
