WASHINGTON, D.C. – Western New York has a new congressional member representing them. Republican Joe Sempolinski (R- NY) was sworn in late Tuesday night.
“It feels great because the people of the 23rd district now have a voice again, someone to speak for them,” said Rep. Sempolinski. “And they’re what it’s all about, it’s not about me it’s about making sure the people are listened to and have a voice in their government.”
He brought his family to his swearing in ceremony at the U.S. Capitol. We caught up with Sempolinski afterward, he told us he’s ready to get to work and represent the southern tier.
“I want to make sure our constituent services are up and running,” said Sempolinski. “I’m excited to work on the committees to which I’ve been assigned which are education, labor and budget. Also, as I mentioned in my speech, I’m a down syndrome parent so I would love to do something for folks with developmental disabilities.”
Sempolinski is replacing former Rep. Tom Reed’s seat after Reed left office months ago for a job in the private sector. However, he will only be in this office until the new congress is elected and sworn in next year.
