Andrew Stevenson Promoted To Chief Weather Forecaster

JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) — Starting Monday, Andrew Stevenson is taking on an expanded role with WNY News Now’s First Defense Weather team.

Stevenson, who currently manages the weather department over the weekends and fills in when needed, will soon be taking over as Chief Weather Forecaster.

Over the next month, the Jamestown native will present weather forecasts for our daily noon broadcast on Monday and Tuesdays; in addition to his website reports and weekend duties.

A SUNY Jamestown Community College graduate, Stevenson holds an Associate’s Degree in Science. He joined WNY News Now as an intern in February 2019, before taking on the role of Weather Forecaster.

During a brief transition, Dakota Hunter, who helped to develop Jamestown’s only locally based weather operation, will continue on air Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays until Stevenson assumes the role leading the department in January 2023.

We thank Dakota for his tireless commitment to our community, helping to grow First Defense Weather into the service it is today.

Furthermore, we wish Dakota well and best of luck with his new opportunity as a weekend weather forecaster with our news partner Erie News Now on WICU & WSEE.
