Human Remains Recovered Along Lake Erie’s Shoreline In Chautauqua County

DUNKIRK, NY (WNY News Now) – Human remains recovered along the Lake Erie shoreline in Chautauqua County have been identified.

The Dunkirk Police Department and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office announced the discovery on Thursday afternoon.


Since then, the deceased was identified as Evan Zeller.

Zeller was reported missing in November 2022 after he went missing while kayaking on Lake Erie in the area of Sheffield Lake, OH.

Coordination between the Ohio Department of Natural resources, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the Erie County Medical Examiner’s office led to the identification of Zeller.



Zeller was located near the shore of Lake Erie by Canadaway Creek in the Town of Dunkirk.
