JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) — Plans to permanently memorialize a teenage girl who was killed in a hit and run crash with a semi truck in Jamestown over one year ago is coming to fruition.

Community member Missy Paterniti hosted a benefit over the weekend to help raise funds for a park bench and picnic table, honoring 15-year-old Alexis “Lexi” Hughan who was killed in a tractor trailer hit and run on New Year’s Eve 2021.

“A beautiful donation was given by the Kendall Club,“ explained Paterniti. “And we were able to raise, with donations, $5,072 dollars.”

Now that funds have been acquired, the next step is to purchase equipment and find an appropriate spot in Dow Park, just feet away from where the tragedy took place.

“So from this point on we’re going to wait for the benches to come in,“ stated Paterniti. “The city will put them in. they will be cemented into the park. And then from that point on, we will figure out what we want to do with the rest of the money. There’s a nice chunk of change still left over.”

In addition to the memorial, Paterniti would like to see changes made to truck routes within the city limits.

“Any truck that has come through the City of Jamestown and made that turn on that corner, where that young girl died should have never been there,“ exclaimed Paterniti.

The alleged driver of the tractor trailer, Randal Roilson, is also accused of causing another fatal accident in early December. He was hospitalized last month following the most recent collision.
