LAKEWOOD, NY (WNY News Now) — Firefighters in Lakewood are credited with rescuing a dog that fell through the lake’s ice this week.

On Thursday, the Lakewood Fire was dispatched to a reported dog in Chautauqua Lake that had fallen through the ice.

The department’s rescue unit responded and the ice water rescue crew was able to retrieve the animal and return it safely back to their owner.

While this situation happily ended, the department is reminding all residents that Chautauqua Lake’s ice is not strong enough for humans and even animals.

They are asking the public to please stay off the ice until next winter so you don’t fall in.
