POMFRET, NY (WNY News Now) – A local roofer is accused of yet again defrauding a Chautauqua County homeowner by not completing a job and then running away with payment.

In August 2021, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office began investigating James Haskins.

Deputies said the 42-year-old Angola, NY resident was paid $2,500 to complete a roofing job in the Town of Pomfret, but never followed through.

Specifically, investigators said Haskins failed to purchase supplies or conduct any work on the project.

On Friday, Haskins turned himself in to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office on criminal grand larceny charges.

This is not the first time Haskins was accused of fraud. In 2020, the roofer was accused of accepting a $3,500 check for a similar roofing job in the Town of Portland.
