ALBANY, NY (WNY News Now) – New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Monday that over seven million dollars will be used to support medication and other addiction services across the state.

15 providers in NYS will receive this funding for same-day, immediate enrollment in treatment and care management.

New York State is receiving more than two billion dollars through various settlement agreements with opioid manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies that were secured by Attorney General Letitia James.

A portion of the funding from these settlements will go directly to municipalities, with the remainder deposited into a dedicated fund to support prevention, treatment, harm reduction and recovery efforts to address the ongoing opioid epidemic

“Our people are hurting,” explained Governor Hochul. “And shame on us if we don’t step up and say no we’re here to help we can do something. We have the resources, we just have to dedicate them to services we know would work over time, and that’s exactly what I focused on on this budget.”

“My budget that was just enacted prohibits insurance companies from denying acsess to critical mental health and substance abuse disorder services,” said Hochul. “Now insurance comapnies have to cover it.”

In Western New York this will be provided through EHS Evergreen Health, Inc. and BestSelf Behavioral Health Incorporated
