HARRISBURG, Pa. (Erie News Now) — Wednesday, Governor Josh Shapiro welcomed Penn State Football to the State Capitol and congratulated head coach James Franklin for his team’s victory earlier this year.
Coaches, athletic officials and others received a warm welcome to the Governor’s Reception Room, where the Rose Bowl trophy was on full display.
Penn State defeated Utah 35-21 on Jan 2 for the team’s first Rose Bowl victory since 1995.
“It’s obviously great to come with the Rose Bowl trophy and have an opportunity to celebrate that and all the hard work that our young people did in having the opportunity to bring that back to the great state of Pennsylvania,” said Franklin.
“The brand of Penn State is something that stretches far beyond this commonwealth. And you know what else stretches beyond the bounds of their day-to-day lives? That is the work that these coaches do,” said Gov. Shapiro.
Shapiro also welcomed Penn State’s new head basketball coach, Mike Rhoades, who shared his appreciation and excitement to lead the program.
