JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – The National Comedy Center dedicated the George and Jolene Brand Schlatter Theater on Friday.
George Schlatter, a renowned television producer and director, is best known for creating Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In, which kickstarted the careers of actresses Goldie Hawn and Lily Tomlin. Schlatter also discovered Robin Williams, who made his television debut on a 1977 revival of Laugh-In.
Dick Smothers of the Smothers Brothers spoke, as well as Sarah Purcell, a co-host of Schlatter’s reality series Real People. Following a speech from his daughter, Schlatter brought the event to a close with a few words of his own. He then partook in the ribbon cutting ceremony, which was followed by a book signing of Schlatter’s new book, Still Laughing: A Life in Comedy.
