Cellular Tower Vandals Apprehended

Sherman, NY (WNY News Now) – Two individuals from Akron, Ohio, have been arrested by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office for damaging and removing property from cellular tower sites in the Town of Westfield and Town of Sherman, resulting in damages exceeding $50,000.

On August 2, 2023, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into the deliberate destruction of cellular tower sites situated in the Town of Westfield and the Town of Sherman. Unknown perpetrators had been cutting and removing vital coax cable lines from the tower properties, causing substantial damage to the infrastructure.


On August 11, 2023 a Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputy was engaged in a routine area check at a cellular tower site located in the Town of Sherman. At this time, the deputy observed two individuals actively removing additional coax cable lines from the site.

The individuals were promptly identified as Bryan S. Goody and Philip D. Lakes, both hailing from Akron, Ohio. Subsequent investigation unveiled that neither Goody nor Lakes were authorized to be on the cellular tower property.

Both Goody and Lakes were apprehended and subsequently both subjects were released on their own recognizance.
