HARRISBURG, PA (WNY News Now) – A former County District Attorney has been handed a prison sentence following his conviction in March on six counts: indecent assault, strangulation, simple assault, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, and criminal trespass. The charges are related to a harrowing attack that occurred in September 2021.

Jeffrey L. Thomas, 37, has been handed a prison sentence of 2 ¼ to 7 years. In addition to the prison term, Thomas will be obligated to register as a sex offender and report his whereabouts to the police for a span of 15 years.

The investigation carried out by the Office of the Attorney General found that on the night of the incident, Thomas unlawfully entered the victim’s residence and subjected her to physical assault and sexual misconduct. During the trial, evidence was presented that demonstrated Thomas had engaged in months of inappropriate and unwelcome communication, including sending explicit messages and images.

The victim testified that Thomas’s position as District Attorney was intimidating, causing her to delay reporting the unwanted contact.

In a separate legal matter, Thomas faces charges related to domestic abuse allegations in Cambria County. It’s important to note that he is presumed innocent in that particular case, which is also being prosecuted by the Office of the Attorney General.
