Man Convicted After Hit and Run

WNY News Now – On February 19, 2022, Rafael Medina-Gonzalez was struck and killed while assisting an employee whose vehicle had become stuck in the snow.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced that a Niagara County jury returned a guilty verdict convicting Nathan C. Marziale, age 39, of Lockport, of Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Incident.

39-year-old Nathan Marziale of Lockport had struck Medina-Gonzalez with his vehicle on Dysinger Road in Lockport on February 19, 2022, then drove off while Medina-Gonzalez was on the roof of his vehicle. A passerby noticed Medina-Gonzalez in a snow bank 2 miles from the scene of the initial incident.

Seaman stated: “To say this was traumatic for Mr. Medina-Gonzalez’s co-worker and fiancée, who were present and witnessed it, is a gross understatement.  The defendant’s concern that night was only for himself.  The jury returned an obviously correct verdict in this case.”

Marziale faces up to 2 1/3 to 7 years in State Prison when he returns to court before County Court Judge Caroline A. Wojtaszek for sentencing in November. The case was investigated by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Vehicular Crimes Bureau Chief Christine Savoia and Assistant District Attorney Nichole Sands.
