(WNY News Now) – Several SUNY campuses have made significant gains in the 2024 U.S. News & World Report College Rankings, with Stony Brook University leading the pack, jumping from #77 to #58 in the Best University Rankings.
In the latest edition of the U.S. News & World Report College Rankings for 2024, the State University of New York (SUNY) system has reason to celebrate as its campuses achieved notable success. This year’s rankings placed a greater emphasis on social mobility and student outcomes, with nearly 1,500 U.S. four-year bachelor’s degree-granting institutions evaluated on up to 19 different measures.
The top-performing SUNY campuses in the Best National Universities category include Stony Brook University (#58), Binghamton University (#73), University at Buffalo (#76), and SUNY ESF (#115). In the Best National Liberal Arts Colleges category, Purchase College secured a place at #139.
SUNY also received recognition in the Best Value Schools category, with SUNY ESF (#78), Binghamton University (#85), University at Albany (#88), Stony Brook University (#134), and University at Buffalo (#169) earning spots.
Among the Best Regional Universities in the North, SUNY Geneseo (#12), SUNY New Paltz (#24), and SUNY Maritime College (#25) were the top performers.
The rankings also acknowledged SUNY’s commitment to education in various disciplines, including Business Programs, Nursing Programs, Undergraduate Teaching Programs, and Colleges for Veterans.
SUNY Chancellor John B. King, Jr. expressed pride in the recognition, emphasizing that while rankings have limitations, SUNY institutions continue to provide excellent education and promote social mobility.
The 2024 rankings coincide with significant investments in the SUNY system, with the FY 2024 state budget allocating $1.3 billion for campus capital projects, $106 million for community colleges, and additional funds for innovation and endowments. The budget also guarantees free tuition for 53 percent of full-time in-state students.
SUNY, which celebrates its 75th anniversary, remains the largest comprehensive system of higher education in the U.S., serving over 1.4 million students across 64 colleges and universities. The system contributes significantly to academic research in New York and boasts a vast alumni network worldwide.
