(WNY News Now) – New York – New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the commencement of applications for the Excelsior Scholarship, offering tuition-free college education for SUNY and CUNY students from families earning up to $125,000 annually. The application period extends until February 2, 2024.
Governor Kathy Hochul has revealed that the application process for the Excelsior Scholarship’s Spring 2024 term is officially underway. The scholarship, accessible to students covered by the Senator José Peralta New York State DREAM Act, facilitates tuition-free attendance at SUNY or CUNY two-year or four-year colleges when combined with other financial aid.
Open to new entrants in Spring 2024 and current students yet to receive the Excelsior Scholarship, applications are not required from current recipients. The initiative aligns with New York’s commitment to student financial aid, benefitting over 180,000 state residents in 2022.
Governor Hochul emphasized, “The Excelsior Scholarship is a game changer,” making higher education financially feasible for low- and middle-income families. The program targets households with federal adjusted gross incomes up to $125,000, encouraging attendance at SUNY or CUNY colleges, with a requirement of 30 credits per year for degree completion in the stipulated time.
Applications are accepted until February 2, 2024, in a concerted effort to foster educational accessibility and affordability across New York State.
