(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service (NWS) Buffalo NY has issued a Lakeshore Flood Warning for Niagara, Erie, and Chautauqua counties, effective from 7 AM Saturday to 4 AM EST Sunday, due to significant lakeshore flooding anticipated along the Upper Niagara River.

Residents of Niagara, Erie, and Chautauqua counties are urged to exercise caution as rapid rises in water levels are expected on Saturday, peaking in the afternoon and early evening. Grand Island and Cayuga Island along the Upper Niagara River are likely to experience flooding. The warning emphasizes the dangers of lakeshore areas, advising the public to avoid breakwaters, piers, and beaches for their safety. The NWS anticipates significant beach erosion, debris, local road closures, and perilous boating conditions during the warning period.
