(WNY News Now) – WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) announced a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant for the Seneca Nation of Indians in the amount of $1,591,200. This grant is part of the FY 2023 Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) program and will be allocated for the construction of the Buffalo Creek Community Center, which will function as a resource center for Senecas of all ages living in the Buffalo region.

“I’m proud to announce this significant investment for the families of the Seneca Nation in Buffalo Creek and the surrounding areas,” said Congressman Langworthy. “The new Buffalo Creek Community Center will support local development and provide families with essential resources to improve their quality of life. I look forward to my continued work with the Seneca Nation and the completion of this important project.”

According to HUD, the ICDBG Program provides eligible grantees with direct grants for use in developing viable Indian and Alaska Native communities, including decent housing, a suitable living environment, and economic opportunities, primarily for low- and moderate-income persons.
