Syracuse Police Officers and Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputies encountered a fatal exchange of gunfire with an armed suspect after responding to a suspicious vehicle incident in Onondaga County, New York.
On Sunday, April 14, 2024, at around 7:07 p.m., Syracuse Police Officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at Emerson Avenue and Hamilton Street. The driver evaded attempts to stop and fled, with officers noting the license plate.
Further investigation led officers to a residence on Darien Drive in Liverpool, New York, where the vehicle was located. Upon arrival, officers and sheriff’s deputies were met by an armed individual, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
One Syracuse Police Officer and one Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy were struck by gunfire and succumbed to their injuries after being transported to Upstate University Hospital. The suspect, also shot during the incident, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
