WNY News Now recently conducted an interview at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute with David Niles, Advancement Director, and Maria Ferguson, Curator, to discuss the upcoming BANFF film festival and some upcoming art exhibition changes.
The Roger Tory Peterson Institute, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, will be hosting the BANFF film festival, set to take place at the Reg Lenna Center For The Arts on Friday, April 19th and Saturday, April 20th, starting at 7 p.m.
The BANFF Mountain Film Festival, which receives hundreds of entries of outdoor adventure and environmental films, selects the best entries and places them into a curated program, which then goes on tour. The tour will showcase a total of 17 films, with 8 being played on Friday night and the remaining 9 to be played on Saturday night.
The films themselves explore a diverse range of outdoor activities, from mountain climbing to kayaking, and much more, all of which can be performed in Chautauqua County. Additionally, a BANFF ticket includes a weekend pass to the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, where visitors will be able to receive a sneak peek of the upcoming Kevin Ebi exhibit, which won’t officially open until April 27th.
Kevin Ebi: Five Minutes In Nature is a collection of several large-scale photographs from his travels all over the world, with a focus of the tranquility of nature. The exhibition will run from April 27th through July 21st.
But Kevin Ebi is not the only artist on display. Wildwing: Paintings By Rosalie Haizlett is also on display until June 2nd. Rosalie Haizlett was a resident artist at the Institute last year, and her resulting artwork, a collection of beautiful watercolor paintings, is now on display.
And for those unaware, the Roger Tory Peterson Institute has Roger Tory Peterson’s artwork on permanent display. Anyone interested in learning more about the Roger Tory Peterson Institute and its events can visit rtpi.org.
