(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, NY – In a significant development for public safety, the City of Jamestown has been awarded a $285,400 Law Enforcement Technology Grant from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (NYS DCJS), aimed at enhancing the technological arsenal of the Jamestown Police Department.
Strengthening the law enforcement capabilities of Jamestown, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (NYS DCJS) has allocated a Law Enforcement Technology (LETECH) Grant totaling $285,400 to the city. This funding infusion is poised to empower the Jamestown Police Department with advanced tools crucial for crime prevention, investigation, and rescue missions.
The grant will fuel the acquisition of 44 surveillance cameras, 3 license plate readers, 3 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and essential software updates for 51 computers. Additionally, 3 printers will be installed in patrol cars to facilitate on-the-go documentation and reporting.
“This grant signifies a significant stride for our police department,” expressed Mayor Kimberly Ecklund. “With enhanced technological capabilities, we are better equipped to safeguard our community, expedite crime resolution, and bolster overall public safety.”
The augmentation of surveillance cameras and license plate readers promises real-time data and evidence, streamlining investigations and response mechanisms. UAV deployment will provide invaluable support for search and rescue operations, event surveillance, and crime scene assessments. Moreover, software upgrades will optimize the efficiency and efficacy of existing computer systems within the Jamestown Police Department.
