(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, NY – Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced the guilty plea of a 30-year-old resident of Buffalo, for Manslaughter in the First Degree, reigniting the call for enhanced gun control measures to combat escalating violence.

Jerry L. Simpson, 30, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree before State Supreme Court Justice Debra Givens. Simpson’s plea follows a tragic shooting incident on January 5, 2023, where he fatally shot 37-year-old Jermaine Underwood and injured another individual with an illegal firearm on Kensington Avenue in Buffalo.
