(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, NY – Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that 33-year-old Jazmine C. Frazier of Buffalo was arraigned before Amherst Town Court Justice Kara A. Buscaglia on one count of Resisting Arrest (Class “A” misdemeanor) and one count of Loitering (violation).
It is alleged that on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at approximately 8:22 p.m., the defendant, while attending a demonstration at University at Buffalo North Campus, failed to comply with orders by police to disperse the area for violating the university’s policy prohibiting overnight assemblies. Officers placed the defendant’s hands into plastic handcuffs after she allegedly refused to cooperate while being placed under arrest. It is further alleged that the defendant resisted arrest by attempting to break the plastic handcuffs. She is also accused of attempting to prevent the police officers from walking her to their patrol vehicle by laying on the ground.
University Police filed charges against 14 other individuals for their alleged conduct on the same evening. All of the accused were charged with violations, which will be handled by the town attorney.
Frazier is scheduled to return on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. for a pre-trial conference. She was released on her own recognizance as the charges are non-qualifying offenses for bail.
If convicted of the highest charge, Frazier faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Mitchell C. Boughton of the Justice Courts Bureau.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
