(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, NY – August 7, 2024: The Zoning Board of Appeals in Jamestown will hold a public hearing to consider a variance request for a carport construction at 12 Harris Avenue.
The application, submitted by Eric Hooven for a property owned by Sandra Hooven, seeks two area variances for a new 17.5’x20’ carport. Current zoning laws in the R-1 district require detached accessory structures to maintain a minimum distance from other buildings and property lines, which the proposed carport does not meet.
- Proximity to House: The required minimum distance between buildings is 10 feet. The proposed carport would have a 0-foot distance.
- Side Property Line Distance: The required minimum distance from the side lot line is 5 feet. The proposed carport would be 1.2 feet from the side property line.
The hearing will take place at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, Municipal Building, 200 East Third Street. Residents are invited to voice their opinions in person or submit written comments via mail or email, which will be read and transcribed during the meeting. The event will also be livestreamed on the city’s website.
