(WNY News Now) – Lockport – A Lockport man faces severe charges after being accused of setting a woman on fire in a horrific attack.

On Friday, August 9, 2024, Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced the unsealing of an indictment in Niagara County Court, charging 38-year-old Barinder Singh with Assault in the First Degree. Singh is accused of dousing a Niagara Falls woman with a flammable liquid and setting her on fire, leaving her with serious injuries.

Singh was apprehended in Niagara Falls on an indictment warrant and was arraigned by County Court Judge John Ottaviano. Bail has been set at $100,000 cash or a $200,000 bail bond, reflecting the severity of the crime.

District Attorney Seaman emphasized the urgency of the case, stating, “Given the extremely violent nature of the crime and the severe injuries to the victim I felt it was necessary to get the case indicted immediately and ask a County Court Judge to revisit the defendant’s release status… I hope that the bail that was set will be sufficient.”

Singh remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
