(WNY News Now) – Cheektowaga, N.Y. – The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) invites everyone to the 24th Annual Fall Festival at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve in Cheektowaga on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This free, family-friendly event offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature as the forest and wetlands transform with the vibrant colors of fall.

Festival attendees can enjoy a variety of activities, including guided nature walks led by experts, interactive zones for children, and wildlife observation challenges. Featured organizations like Penn Dixie Fossil Park, WNY Young Birder Club, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be on hand to share insights and engage visitors in environmental education.

Highlights of the day include the Wildlife Spotters Challenge, a special appearance by Buffalo Audubon Society’s ambassador screech owl, and hands-on science activities at the Pond Exploration and Science Zones. Kids can also partake in crafts, face painting, and meet costumed forest characters, including Smokey Bear.

Special presentations, including a demonstration by DEC Forest Rangers and live music from the Buffalo Ukelele Club, will be held throughout the day. Festivalgoers can also enjoy a variety of treats available at the Boy Scout Troop 500 food stand.

Visitors are encouraged to use eco-friendly transportation by taking the Parks Adventure Bus, which will provide rides to the festival throughout the day. More details are available on the NFTA website.
