(WNY News Now) – Bemus Point, N.Y. – The Bemus Point community faces a pivotal decision on authorizing funds for electric school buses, with significant financial implications on the line.
Bemus Point residents are urged to participate in a crucial public hearing this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the elementary school’s cafeteria. The meeting will address the upcoming community vote on authorizing a Bond Anticipation Note (BAN) for the purchase of two electric school buses.
Superintendent Joseph Reyda has emphasized the importance of community involvement in this decision. A positive vote would enable the district to leverage over $800,000 in financial incentives and allow National Grid to cover 90% of the utility upgrades required for the bus garage. A negative vote, however, would result in the loss of these significant financial benefits.
Under state education law, the district will be mandated to begin purchasing electric school buses starting in 2027. This vote represents a proactive step toward compliance with this law, ensuring the community maximizes available financial support.
Superintendent Reyda encourages all residents to attend Wednesday’s hearing, where a detailed presentation will be provided, and community members will have the opportunity to ask questions.
