(WNY News Now) – Akron, N.Y. – In a boost to local aviation infrastructure, Akron Airport/Jesson Field is set to receive a $98,000 federal grant to enhance its runway, ensuring safer and more efficient operations.
Akron Airport, also known as Jesson Field, will soon see improvements to its Runway 7/25, thanks to a $98,000 grant awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) FY24 Airport Improvement Program (AIP). This funding will enable the rehabilitation of 3,268 feet of the existing paved runway, helping to preserve its structural integrity and reduce the risk of foreign object debris, ultimately extending its lifespan.
“Akron-Jesson Field is an important asset for the local community, and this grant will ensure it remains safe and functional for pilots and travelers alike,” said Congressman Langworthy. “I’m pleased to support this investment in our local aviation infrastructure, which is vital for the continued growth and safety of our region.”
The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). These funds are critical for the continued growth and safety of the aviation sector and for meeting the evolving needs of the communities they serve.
