(WNY News Now) – Chautauqua County unveils the PASTA (Parenting a Second Time Around) program, a free initiative designed to assist grandparents, relatives, and other guardians in their renewed caregiving roles.

MAYVILLE, NY – Chautauqua County is introducing the PASTA (Parenting a Second Time Around) program, a comprehensive and free training series aimed at supporting individuals stepping into the role of caregiver for a second time.

Program Overview: The PASTA program consists of a series of eight workshops specifically designed to  address the unique challenges faced by second-time caregivers. These workshops provide valuable  insights, strategies, and community connections to help you navigate your renewed role with  confidence and support. 

Workshop Topics Include: 

1. It Wasn’t Supposed to Be Like This – Understanding the emotional and practical shifts that  come with taking on a parenting role unexpectedly. 

2. Getting to Know You – Focusing on child development and understanding how to meet the  unique needs of the child in your care. 









3. Discipline That Really Works – Effective techniques for managing behavior and fostering a  positive environment. 

4. Legal Concerns for Kinship Families – Understanding the rights and responsibilities of  caregivers. 

5. Caregivers and Teens Living Together – Practical advice for managing the dynamics of living with adolescents. 

6. Living with Teens Can Be Challenging – Tools for navigating the specific challenges of raising  teenagers, including communication and setting boundaries.

Led by experienced professionals in child development, legal issues, and family dynamics, each session  offers both practical advice and emotional support. Participants will also gain access to a variety of  resources designed to assist them in their caregiving roles. Light refreshments will be served. 

“Parenting for a second time can be both rewarding and challenging. Our goal with the PASTA program  is to provide caregivers with the tools they need to succeed,” said Tammie Shioleno, Program Facilitator,  at Chautauqua Tapestry and the Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene. “We want every  caregiver to feel confident and supported as they step into this vital role.”
