(WNY News Now) – Jamestown – Max Thompson, 38, a homeless man from Jamestown, was sentenced on September 25, 2024, by Judge David Foley to five years in state prison with five years of post-release supervision. Thompson was convicted of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class D violent felony.

Thompson’s conviction stems from an arrest in November 2023, when Jamestown Police apprehended him after he damaged property at the UCAN City Mission and threatened employees. Upon his arrest, police found a loaded pistol in Thompson’s possession, leading to charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C violent felony. In July 2024, Thompson pled guilty to the lesser charge and was sentenced as a predicate felon, having prior felony convictions within the past decade.

The District Attorney’s Office commended the Jamestown Police Department for their efforts, with Assistant District Attorney (ADA) Andrew Molitor leading the prosecution.
