Dunkirk, N.Y. – The Dunkirk Fire Department faced a demanding afternoon on October 25, 2024, responding to multiple incidents within a short time. At 4:09 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a possible house fire at 153 King Street. Upon arrival, crews found flames on the first floor of a two-story residence, which was evacuated by three adults and one child before responders arrived.
Firefighters swiftly advanced a hose line into the home, containing the fire to the first floor with minor extension into an upstairs wall. The blaze caused extensive damage to the first floor and smoke damage throughout the house. Fortunately, no injuries were reported; however, the residents were displaced due to the damage. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
As firefighters managed the house fire, a two-car accident with injuries was reported at the intersection of Fifth Street and Deer. Crews redirected resources to assist at the scene of the collision while also managing a natural gas incident at 90 Lincoln Avenue. The East Dunkirk and Fredonia Fire Departments, ALSTAR EMS, and Chautauqua County EMS (CCEMS) provided critical support for the simultaneous emergencies.
