(WNY News Now) – A routine street check in Jamestown led to the arrest of a local man, uncovering methamphetamine possession and resolving an outstanding warrant.

Jamestown, N.Y. – Jamestown Police officers arrested Michael P. Jones, a 40-year-old city resident, during a street check near the intersection of Foote Avenue and Harrison Street on the evening of November 15.

At approximately 9:42 PM, officers observed Jones walking in the area and recognized him as the subject of an outstanding warrant issued by the Jamestown Police Department. Upon making contact, officers took Jones into custody without incident.

During a subsequent search, officers discovered a quantity of methamphetamine on Jones’ person. He was transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where he remains in custody. Jones faces a new charge of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree in addition to the outstanding warrant.

Jones is currently held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
