(WNY News Now) – A Buffalo man will spend two decades behind bars for fatally shooting a victim during a botched burglary in the Kensington neighborhood.

BUFFALO, NY – Levon Dickson, 50, was sentenced to 20 years in prison with an additional five years of post-release supervision after admitting to killing a man during an attempted burglary earlier this year. The sentencing was handed down by State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller.
The incident occurred on the evening of February 7, 2024, when Buffalo Police responded to reports of a shooting on the 300 block of Warwick Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 60-year-old Mitchell Reese on the porch of a residence, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. Investigators later determined that Dickson had been attempting to break into the home when he shot Reese with an illegal firearm.
On October 23, 2024, Dickson pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree, a Class “B” violent felony, in full satisfaction of the indictment against him.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Justin H. Caldwell of the Homicide Bureau and Chief Noha A. Elnakib of the Raise the Age/Motor Vehicle Theft Insurance Fraud Unit.
