(WNY News Now) – A small aircraft crash near Exit 2 on I-684 in Harrison, Westchester County, claimed one life and left another in serious condition, prompting an immediate response from state and local authorities.
HARRISON, NY — A small plane went down near Exit 2 on Interstate 684 in Harrison, Westchester County, on December 12, 2024, resulting in a fatality and one critical injury, Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed in a statement.
State Police and local emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, where they determined the aircraft carried two individuals. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
The crash caused the closure of I-684 in both directions as investigators began their work to determine the cause of the accident. Additionally, an aviation fuel spill was reported at the site, prompting environmental response efforts from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). The agency is working diligently to contain and clean up the spill to prevent further environmental impact.
“My heart goes out to the loved ones of those on board during this tragic incident, and I am praying for a safe recovery for the injured individual,” Governor Hochul stated.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or details about the aircraft involved. Travelers are advised to avoid the area while the investigation and cleanup efforts continue.
