(WNY News Now) – A teenager suspected of a hit-and-run that left an 89-year-old man injured in Derby has voluntarily turned himself in, according to the Town of Evans Police Department.

The 17-year-old, a resident of the Town of Evans, is cooperating with detectives and faces charges for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. Police have not released his name due to his age.

The incident occurred Monday on Derby Road near Wisconsin and Sturgeon Point roads. Authorities said the elderly victim was struck by the suspect’s vehicle while standing in front of his mailbox at 7380 Derby Road. The victim suffered injuries to his arm, leg, and back and was transported by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
