(WNY News Now) – Three juvenile suspects were arrested and charged following a string of burglaries across Syracuse early Friday morning, with damages totaling over $150,000.
SYRACUSE, NY — A series of early morning burglaries led to the arrest of three juveniles in Syracuse this Friday. The suspects, two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old, were apprehended after damaging an ATM and stealing various items across multiple locations.
The incidents began around 1:57 a.m. on Canal Street, where Syracuse Police responded to a burglary call. Authorities discovered that a U-Haul van and keys had been stolen from a business. Just 12 minutes later, at 2:09 a.m., another burglary was reported on Erie Boulevard East, where suspects had entered a fenced-in area and stolen a heavy-duty tow chain.
At approximately 2:37 a.m., police were alerted to an ATM alarm on Erie Boulevard West. Upon arrival, officers found that the three juveniles had arrived in the stolen U-Haul van and were attempting to damage an ATM. The estimated damage to the ATM exceeds $150,000. After a brief foot pursuit, the juveniles were arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including Burglary in the Third Degree, Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, and Attempted Grand Larceny in the Second Degree.
A separate burglary was reported at 3:04 a.m. on Erie Boulevard East, where suspects entered a business through a drive-thru window. While no items were confirmed stolen, this incident remains under investigation.
The three juveniles, who are believed to be connected to all the burglaries, were arraigned in court and released on their own recognizance. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
