(WNY News Now) – New York Attorney General Letitia James has pledged accountability and transparency in her office’s investigation into the December 10 death of Robert Brooks following an encounter with correction officers at Marcy Correctional Facility.

NEW YORK – Attorney General Letitia James issued a statement today addressing her office’s ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Robert Brooks, an incarcerated individual who died on December 10, 2024, at Marcy Correctional Facility in Oneida County.

The Office of Special Investigation (OSI), under the Attorney General’s jurisdiction, is reviewing the use of force by New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) officers during the incident. OSI has obtained video footage of the encounter and plans to release it to the public after Mr. Brooks’ family has had the opportunity to review it.

“Law enforcement professionals must be held to the highest standards of accountability, and I am committed to providing New Yorkers with the transparency they deserve.” Attorney General James said.
