(WNY News Now) – MAYVILLE, N.Y. – Residents of Sinclairville are being urged to conserve water following a tanker truck accident on Route 60 that has prompted the shutdown of the Village’s main water wells. The accident, involving a gasoline-hauling tanker, has raised concerns about potential contamination of the primary water supply.

While officials work to ensure the water remains safe, the Village will rely on two auxiliary wells to maintain service. However, these wells cannot meet peak demand, necessitating mandatory water conservation measures.

Steps to Conserve Water

Village officials are asking residents to take the following actions to reduce water usage:

  • Laundry: Limit washing clothes or use commercial laundromats.
  • Showers and Baths: Take shorter showers and minimize water use in baths.
  • Dishwashing: Use paper plates and disposable utensils to reduce dishwashing needs. Run dishwashers only when fully loaded.
  • Everyday Use: Avoid letting water run unnecessarily, such as when brushing teeth or shaving.
