(WNY News Now) – Two men died Thursday afternoon after a head-on crash on Route 430 in the Town of Chautauqua, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported at about 3:40 p.m. Aug. 20 on Route 430. Deputies, firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene.

Investigators determined that an eastbound vehicle operated by Alexander D. Morelli, 23, of Meadville, Pennsylvania, failed to keep right and crossed the double solid center line.

The vehicle then struck a westbound vehicle operated by Doug A. Griffith, 51, of Massena, New York, according to investigators.

Both Morelli and Griffith died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, North Lake Fire Department, Sherman Fire Department and Chautauqua County EMS responded to the accident.

The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing.
