(WNY News Now) – Kids ages 3-8 and their families are invited to dig into the world of vertebrates, from foxes to frogs, and discover how bones, skulls, and teeth reveal the secrets of an animal’s life.

Jamestown, N.Y. – A vertebrate is an animal with a backbone. There are vertebrates of all shapes and sizes found in Western New York, including foxes, frogs, and robins.

You and your 3 to 8-year-old(s) are invited to Audubon Community Nature Center’s Little Explorers on Saturday, February 8, 10–11:30 a.m., to learn about vertebrates.

Explore real bones to discover how the skulls, teeth, and other bones can help you learn more about an animal’s lifestyle and diet. They can tell you a lot about its size, what it eats, and even how good some of its senses are.

Put on your detective hat and see what clues you can gather as you explore both real and replica skulls and bones. Then try to put the clues together to figure out which animal they came from.

After an indoor lesson, head outside to see what else you can discover about the vertebrates that live at Audubon.

A snack is provided after the hike and a craft is offered if there is time.

Little Explorers happens regardless of the weather, so dress accordingly.

The fee is $12 for adults, $9 for children ages 38 and Nature Center members.

Enrollment is limited to 15 children, 30 participants total.

To make your paid reservations required by Thursday, February 6, call (716) 569-2345 during business hours or go online to AudubonCNC.org/events.
