(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A routine traffic stop in downtown Jamestown early Thursday morning resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old man after he allegedly resisted officers’ commands.
According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers from the third platoon observed a vehicle on the north side of the city operating without insurance at approximately 12:15 a.m. A traffic stop was conducted at a nearby downtown business, where the driver, later identified as Marcus J. Thomas, exited the vehicle and entered the store despite officers’ orders to remain inside his car.
Officers followed Thomas into the store, issuing repeated verbal commands for him to return to his vehicle. When he refused, a brief struggle ensued before he was taken into custody. Further investigation revealed that Thomas was operating the vehicle with a suspended license.
Thomas was transported to the city jail and charged with resisting arrest, along with multiple traffic violations. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Jamestown City Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
