(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – A 43-year-old woman was taken into custody Saturday night after reportedly breaking windows and assaulting a victim with a paint can.

According to police, officers from the 3rd Platoon responded to the area of West 10th Street and Washington Street at approximately 10:58 p.m. on February 8. Upon arrival, they identified the suspect as Vanessa M. Braun, a homeless woman, who was found on the sidewalk near the scene of the reported damage.

Authorities determined that Braun had gone to a residence and began breaking windows with a paint can. When confronted by the homeowners, she allegedly chased them and struck one victim with the can, causing injuries. She then attempted to force her way into the residence.

Braun was arrested without further incident and transported to the city jail. She is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Assault in the Second Degree
  • Attempted Burglary in the Second Degree
  • Menacing in the Second Degree
  • Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree
  • Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree

Authorities noted that Braun has been arrested three times in the past two days, including a prior felony assault charge. She is currently being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
