(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, NY – A routine traffic stop in Jamestown led to the arrest of two individuals on drug possession charges Friday night.

On February 21, 2025, at approximately 7:05 p.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s 2nd Platoon and K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop near Linden Avenue and Forest Avenue after observing a sedan with equipment violations.

During the stop, police identified the occupants as 41-year-old Jason Nevares and 35-year-old Lilliana Rivera-Lopez. An investigation revealed that both individuals were in possession of methamphetamine. Officers took them into custody without incident and transported them to the Jamestown City Jail.

While processing Nevares at the jail, authorities discovered over an ounce of cocaine on his person. As a result, he was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree. Rivera-Lopez was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree.

Due to New York State bail reform laws, Rivera-Lopez was released with an appearance ticket for a later court date. Nevares was held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
