(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo State University student was arrested Sunday after allegedly making an online threat against the school, according to the Buffalo Police Department.

Kevin Thompson, 19, of Buffalo, has been charged with making a threat of mass harm, a Class B misdemeanor.

Police said the investigation began after Meta, formerly Facebook, flagged a concerning post made on Saturday. Detectives from the department’s Threat Management Unit launched an inquiry and obtained a Temporary Extreme Risk Protection Order. The order, granted by Administrative Judge Kevin M. Carter, included a search provision.

During a search of an address in the 100 block of Downing Street in South Buffalo, police recovered a Stoeger P3000 pump shotgun. Authorities did not disclose whether the firearm was directly linked to the alleged threat.

Buffalo Police urged the public to report any suspicious activity by calling or texting their confidential tip line at 716-847-2255.
