(WNY News Now) – Jay Bhoi, a postgraduate in physics and an astronomy tutor by passion, recently shared a mesmerizing collection of pictures he captured from Niagara Falls of the lunar eclipse that occurred on March 14.

Niagara Falls, Ontario – Astronomy and the celestial have long fascinated the human race. For Jay Bhoi, this yearning to gaze upon the final frontier has proven itself indomitable. Beginning his studies at the young age of 14, his drive and passion have long guided his path.

A postgraduate in physics, he has been eager to showcase the beauty of the cosmos and spread his passion to the younger generations, from his services as an astronomy tutor to the numerous lectures he has given at various universities and institutions of higher learning.

Bhoi was gracious enough to provide WNY News Now with a dozen photos he had taken throughout the eclipse, as well as a compilation picture, all of which can be seen below:

To capture these stunning photos, Bhoi used his Tasco 45114500 Telescope, which has an aperture of 114mm and a focal length of 1000mm(f/8.8).

An interesting aspect of this recent lunar eclipse, according to Jay, was the deep red hue, seen in his final photo. This red coloration is the result of Earth’s atmosphere scattering shorter wavelengths of light while allowing red wavelengths to reach the moon. This process, Bhoi explained, is similar to the phenomenon that causes the vibrant sunsets that we see on Earth.

Capturing these pictures in freezing conditions was no easy task, but that made the experience all the more exhilarating and rewarding to Jay Bhoi.

Jay would like to highlight the Avakash Astronomy Club, which he established in 2020 to bring together the community and astronomy enthusiasts. With branches in India and Niagara Falls, Canada, the club shares celestial event updates, hosts live telescope sessions, and promotes astronomy education online. You can follow the club on Instagram: @a.v.a.k.a.s.h.

As we look toward the future, it is our hope that passionate hearts like Jay Bhoi will continue to help us gaze upon the stars.
