(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Flash Flood Warning for southern Allegany County, effective Monday, June 9, 2025, from 6:41 PM until 10:45 PM EDT.

As of 6:41 PM, Doppler radar detected thunderstorms producing 2 to 2.5 inches of rain over the affected area, with an additional 1 to 2 inches of rainfall expected. Flash flooding is already occurring or is imminent, particularly in low-lying regions.

Areas impacted include Wellsville, Alfred, Whitesville, Friendship, Scio, Bolivar, Andover, Belmont, Alma, Almond, Richburg, Knight Creek, Stannards, Paynesville, Little Genesee, West Clarksville, and Ceres.

Flash Flood Hazard:

  • Cause: Thunderstorm-induced heavy rainfall
  • Impact: Flooding of creeks, streams, highways, urban areas, and underpasses

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and never drive through high water. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains the key safety reminder, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain, numerous low-water crossings can quickly become life-threatening during heavy rain. Campers and hikers should stay away from creeks and streams until conditions improve.

Stay tuned to local weather alerts and follow official guidance. For your safety, monitor stream and river levels and prepare for rapid changes in water conditions.
