(WNY News Now) – Audubon Community Nature Center invites young naturalists to get up close with turtles and snakes in a hands-on educational adventure on Saturday, June 14.

Jamestown, N.Y. – Turtles and snakes belong to a group of animals called reptiles.

Audubon Community Nature Center has several reptilian Animal Ambassadors, and more reptiles live in the wild outside.

Bring your 3 to 8-year-old(s) to Audubon Community Nature Center’s Little Explorers, 10-11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 14 for “Reptiles: Scales and Tails.” Learn about the characteristics and behaviors of these animals with a hands-on exploration of shells, scales, and skulls, visiting the live animals, and more.

Like many people, reptiles are most active on warm, sunny days. After a short indoor lesson including the special adaptations that help them survive, you will head out to explore Audubon’s property and look for wild reptiles in their natural habitats. Once you see how they fit into the ecosystem, you may come to love these scaly critters.

A snack is provided after the hike and a craft is offered if there is time.

Little Explorers takes place regardless of the weather, so dress accordingly.

The fee is $12 for adults, $9 for children ages 3–8 and Nature Center members.

Enrollment is limited to 15 children, 30 participants total.
