(WNY News Now) – A 62-year-old Olean resident was arrested for petit larceny after allegedly attempting to leave Walmart without paying for merchandise valued at over $170.
ALLEGANY, N.Y. – The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Mary V. McCarthy, 62, of Olean, on the morning of June 15, 2025, following a shoplifting incident at the Walmart located at 1869 Plaza Drive in the Town of Allegany.
Deputies responded to a call for service at approximately 6:45 a.m. after store personnel reported a suspected theft. According to the sheriff’s office, McCarthy allegedly passed all points of sale without paying for items totaling $171.81.
She was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Olean Substation of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office for processing. McCarthy was charged with petit larceny and subsequently released on an appearance ticket.
McCarthy is scheduled to appear in the Town of Allegany Court at a later date to answer the charge. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
