(WNY News Now) – A routine traffic stop in Olean resulted in two arrests after deputies discovered drugs and paraphernalia early Sunday morning.

OLEAN, N.Y. — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reported that a traffic stop on North 7th Street in Olean led to the arrest of two individuals in the early hours of July 6, 2025. Deputies took Christopher L. Gross, 55, of Olean, and Tayler E. Dutton, 28, of Allegany, into custody following the discovery of suspected crack cocaine and other controlled substances.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies initiated the stop at approximately 4:03 a.m. due to vehicle and traffic law violations. Gross, the driver, underwent field sobriety testing and was determined to be driving while his ability was impaired by drugs. A subsequent vehicle search resulted in the seizure of suspected crack cocaine.

Dutton, a passenger in the vehicle, was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, authorities said.

Gross was taken to the New York State Police Olean Barracks for a breath test, followed by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) evaluation at the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Olean Substation. Dutton was processed and released with an appearance ticket for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree. She is scheduled to appear in Olean City Court at a later date.

Gross was arraigned in the Town of Allegany Court on multiple charges, including:









  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree
  • Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs
  • No/Inadequate Exhaust
  • Obstructed Plate
  • Preliminary Breath Test Refusal

His driver’s license was suspended, and he was released on his own recognizance. He is also scheduled to appear in Olean City Court for further proceedings.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
