(WNY News Now) – Town of Ellicott Police say a Jamestown man was charged after allegedly being found with a weapon on school property during overnight hours at Falconer Central School.

The Town of Ellicott Police Department has announced the arrest of Kevin L. Newby, 54, of Jamestown, following an incident reported as a suspicious person at Falconer Central School.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the school during the overnight hours on December 18, 2025, after receiving a report of an unknown male on the property. Police allege the individual, later identified as Newby, was gathering items from a school dumpster.

School surveillance video reportedly showed Newby with an exposed weapon in his waistband while on school grounds. Town of Ellicott Police later located Newby and the weapon.

Newby was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds. He was arrested and subsequently released with an appearance ticket.

He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ellicott Court at a later date to answer to the charge. As with all criminal cases, the charge is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
